The <section> tag is yet another addition in HTML5. The <section> tag is used to mark a generic web page section.
Sometimes it is also referred to as a semantic element, because it provides information and meaning about the enclosed content to both the humans and the web browsers that render the content of a web page.
Please do not take as a replacement for the <div> tag, as most web designers do by using the <section> tag to group the content for applying CSS styles. Remember that the <section> tag is used to structure the content of a document. For applying CSS styles, sticking to using the <div> tag is preferred.
A very simple example of the usage of the <section> tag follows:
|<h1>Section Heading Goes Here... </h1>
|<p>Put the section content here....</p>
