Comments are very important in keeping track of the coding. Comments are not displayed by the web browser, so they remain invisible to anyone who visits your web page. The only way you can have a look at them is to view the source of your html page in any of the text editors. As the comments are not displayed by the browser, you can leave yourself notes so that you don't forget something when you come back later to redesign the page.

The method of inserting comments in an html page is very simple. Just start your comments with <!-- and start writing your comments and after you are finished with your comments just place --> at the end.

<!-- This text is treated as a comment-->

Your comments can span multiple lines, as long as you start your comments with <!-- and end with -->

<!--
This comment
spans on more
than one line
-->

Caution: Never write anything confidential in html comments. Comments are not displayed by the web browser, but remember anyone can view them by viewing the source of the web page.
